This design is known for its durability, cost-effectiveness, and versatility. The “Post Frame” framing method is not in the IBC code book so it is extremely important that structure design, wind load & uplift, is taken into serious consideration. Here at JY Construction our non-commercial, accessory buildings are pre-engineered to meet or exceed local codes.

What materials are used in post frame construction?

Post frame buildings are typically built with pressure-treated wood posts, steel or metal siding, and roofing materials. We also offer customizable options for insulation, windows, doors, and other finishes. We use the following:


  • Posts: 3 or 4 ply laminated columns, 2×6 or 2×8 depending on building size (60 yr warranty)
  • Posts: 8’ max spacing except for door openings
  • Skirt board: Treated 2×6, 2×8 or 2×10 depending on concrete floor thickness.
  • Girts: 2×4, 2’ max spacing
  • Truss supports headers: 2 or 3 ply, 2×10, 2×12 or engineered LVL’s depending on building size and door opening sizes.
  • Trusses: Engineered trusses, 4’ max spacing
  • Roof Purlins: 2×4, 2’ max spacing
  • Metal siding: (Class 4)  29 or 26 gauge painted metal, (40 year warranty)
  • Metal roofing (Class 4) 29 or 26  gauge painted metal, (40 year warranty)

Unfortunately we don’t, however we can give you some recommendations to some local financial institutions that offer financing and are experienced with these types of buildings for appraised value. 

Are your buildings covered by a warranty?

Yes, all of our post frame buildings come with a comprehensive warranty covering both materials and craftsmanship. Details of the warranty can be provided upon request. We provide a 5 year workmanship warranty and materials are warranted per manufacturer’s specifications.
